The Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) - Introduction workshop is aimed at clinicians with little or no previous knowledge of CBT. Participants learn basic knowledge and learn skills that may be useful in their clinical setting.

CBT comprises a range of cognitive and/or behavioural interventions that have often proven to be the psychological treatment of choice for a wide range of mental health issues.

The course explores how to begin to address maladaptive forms of thinking and/or behaviour; it will cover the basics of CBT, the ABC (activating event, beliefs and consequences) model and explore basic interventions (for example disputation, behavioural interventions, including useful approaches, tools and techniques).

A foundational course suitable for mental health clinicians.

3 ½ hours.

Available by Zoom or face to face.

Outcomes

  • an increased understanding of the concepts of CBT
  • knowledge of the underlying principles of CBT
  • how to identify an ABC
  • explore disputing skills/tools
  • discuss and practice clinical application of basic CBT skills
  • why we should self-practice and self-monitor.

Specifically part 1 covers basic concepts and princples of CBT and ABCs. Part 2 will cover the role of negative thinking, activating events and beliefs.
