The South Australian Mental Health Workforce Capabilities Framework 2025-2030 categorises the capabilities into headings that represent the fundamental areas of mental health practice. These capabilities are approached from multiple perspectives, including those who have lived experience of mental illness, carers, families, kinship, supporters, and the workforce, to ensure that our practice is consistently person-centred. Each capability also delineates outcome statements including collective outcomes, guiding the workforce towards shared goals.
These capabilities, address core elements of everyday mental health practice and the key knowledge and skills expected are listed. They have been deliberately designed to be broad for the participation of all staff across the mental health workforce, however, there may be a small amount of content that is not relevant to all workforce roles. These capabilities do not include discipline specific capabilities/competencies as these are managed within the Local Health Networks by the discipline specific leads within their own discipline specific professional codes and standards, supervision, and management arrangements. The Framework acknowledges and supports the valuable discipline-specific contributions of each profession.
All the courses offered by Mental Health Education Hub SA align to the capabilities included in the framework.
