Kanggawodli is an Aboriginal-managed SA Health service that provides primary health care and clinical care in a residential setting for Aboriginal people. It is a ‘home away from home’ environment for Aboriginal consumers to receive haemodialysis treatment in a culturally safe and inclusive environment.

A recent pilot program demonstrated that having dialysis in a familiar environment improves treatment compliance and health outcomes for Aboriginal people, and at Kanggawodli, patients have the added benefit of being supported by Aboriginal Health Practitioners and other services. The pilot reduced hospital presentations of Aboriginal people by more than 50 per cent, and is now being expanded to double the amount of dialysis care that is offered at the site.
