The Department for Health and Wellbeing offers an Aboriginal Health Scholarship Program in partnership with Australian Rotary Health. The program aims to increase the number of professionally qualified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working in the South Australian health sector. The scholarship program is in its 25th year of operation and provides up to $5,000 per year for full time study (pro-rated for part-time study) for each recipient.

Applications for the 2025 program will open in November and will be advertised on SA Health Careers.

Applicants must be residents of South Australia, provide Confirmation of Aboriginality from an Aboriginal organisation, and be enrolled in a health related course such as:

  • Medicine
  • Registered nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Dentistry
  • Pathology
  • Allied health

Sponsoring SA Rotary Clubs provide individual support to scholars who are expected to attend a sponsoring Rotary Club meeting to share their learning experiences of their chosen health course.
