Draft SA Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Health Practitioner Career Framework

The Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW) has released the draft SA Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Health Practitioner Career Framework for consultation.

This framework has been developed to provide structured, culturally safe career pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners. It reflects the importance of cultural knowledge, lived experience, and community authority, while aligning with the National Framework for Determining Scope of Practice for the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Health Practitioner Workforce and the SA Aboriginal Workforce Framework 2023–2031 (PDF 13MB).

Your feedback will help ensure the framework is practical, culturally safe, and sustainable.

What is the Framework?

  • Defines clear career pathways from novice and early career, mid-career, to management and leadership and beyond.
  • Embeds cultural identity and Aboriginal-led solutions as professional strengths.
  • Supports workforce mobility, training and leadership development across SA Health.
  • Provides consistency across SA Health, education providers and regulatory bodies.
