Draft Yorke Peninsula Health Service Plan Released for Community Consultation

The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network (YNLHN) has released a draft Yorke Peninsula Service Plan for public consultation, setting out a proposed vision for local health services over the next 5 to 10 years.

The draft plan outlines how services will be delivered across the Yorke Peninsula — including Wallaroo, Maitland and Yorketown hospitals, Minlaton Aged Care, Mental Health services and Country Health Connect.

Community members, staff and stakeholders are now invited to review the draft Service Plan and provide feedback, helping to shape the future of healthcare across the region.

Planning for the Future of Local Care

The draft Service Plan is a strategic, evidence-based roadmap that focuses on delivering safe, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare, while supporting people to access services closer to home.

It includes consideration of:

  • Hospital services, including emergency, inpatient, rehabilitation, palliative, and outpatient care
  • Community and in-home services delivered through Country Health Connect
  • Mental health and wellbeing services
  • Residential aged care
  • Workforce sustainability and new models of care
  • Infrastructure and service capability across the Yorke Peninsula

Key Priorities Identified

The draft plan identifies several key priorities to strengthen local healthcare services, including:

  • Improving recruitment and retention of a skilled workforce
  • Enhancing access to primary care and community-based services
  • Strengthening coordination between services and providers
  • Expanding opportunities to deliver care closer to home
  • Building stronger local partnerships across the health system

Community Voice Central to Planning

The development of the draft plan has been informed by extensive community and clinician engagement, as well as insights from the Parliamentary Inquiry into local health services.

Feedback highlighted both the importance of maintaining accessible, local services and the strong community appreciation for the commitment and dedication of local health staff.

The consultation period closes 31 July 2026 and feedback will inform the final Service Plan, ensuring it reflects the priorities and needs of the Yorke Peninsula community.

Other Service Plans

The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network will develop 5-10 year service plans for Yorke and Northern communities.

Health service planning aims to improve service delivery and system performance to best meet the local population's health needs. It includes aligning the delivery of existing health services to meet the changing demand patterns and use of services. In addition, it aims to make the most effective use of available and future health resources (funding, staff and infrastructure).

A dedicated Service Planning Steering Group oversees the development of each Yorke and Northern Health Service Plan. The Steering Group includes local health professionals and community representatives. Through significant engagement with a range of key stakeholders, the Yorke and Northern Local Health Network develops Service Plans explicitly tailored to each community.
