The Northern Adelaide Cancer Centre has hit a major milestone for cancer care in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. The centre is now open six days a week, giving local patients and families more flexible access to cancer care, closer to home. Based at the Lyell McEwin Hospital, the centre brings together a wide range of services under one roof, so people can receive treatment, support and follow up care without needing to travel across the city.

The Northern Adelaide Cancer Centre provides chemotherapy and other systemic treatments, specialist medical and radiation oncology clinics, and access to allied health professionals such as dietitians, social workers and psychologists. Patients can also benefit from supportive care programs that help manage side effects, maintain strength and energy, and navigate the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis.
The centre is also a hub for clinical trials and research, offering eligible patients access to new and emerging treatments across a range of cancer types, including breast, lung, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, melanoma and more. This research focus means local care is continually improving, guided by the latest evidence.
“It is exciting to see our unit growing and developing, to maintain high standards of care for the northern Adelaide community. It’s also exciting for our consumers to have more flexibility in their treatment plans,” Nurse Unit Manager, Jocelyn expressed.
For Adelaide’s north-eastern community, the centre being open six days a week reduces waiting times and makes it easier for people to fit appointments around work, family and other responsibilities. The expanded hours are another step in ensuring that high quality, comprehensive cancer care is available closer to home, supporting patients not just through treatment, but throughout their entire cancer journey.
