Modbury Hospital South Wing welcomed its first cohort of patients on 16 February 2026 and the new facility is already making a meaningful difference to the lives of Northern Adelaide residents. After years of planning, construction and anticipation, the South Wing is now fully operational, supporting the Hospital’s role as a trusted, hub for high quality care.

The expansion delivers:

  •  A 24 bed Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit, delivering extended therapeutic and rehabilitative care under a model that provides therapy and supports daily activities in a specially designed living space.
  • A 20 bed Older Persons Mental Health Unit, relocated from the Lyell McEwin Hospital, offering specialist care in a home-like environment, plus sensory modulation rooms, visitor rooms and courtyard spaces.
  • A dedicated area for the North-Eastern Cancer Centre, providing easy access to treatment, closer to home.

Karen Puvogel, Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) Chief Executive Officer, says, “This significant project marks an exciting milestone in the history of Modbury Hospital. I am delighted that we can deliver on this and make it easier for our patients and their loved ones to visit hospital.”

The South Wing’s modern, dedicated clinical spaces create enviable opportunities for students and early career staff to learn in a supportive, community focused environment. By training the next generation locally, we can deliver better health outcomes for years to come.

As we settle into daily operations, the benefits are already evident. More patient centred services delivered locally mean a clearer path to better health for the community.
