Link opens in new windowOur volunteers at the Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network (FUNLHN) are an integral part of our health services.

Volunteers enrich our programs and the successful operation of our health services. We recognise and appreciate the unique qualities that only volunteers can bring, adding value to our services and enhancing the experience of our patients, residents, and clientele.

We have a variety of volunteer groups within our hospitals and health services including:

  • Hawker Memorial Hospital
  • Quorn Health Service
  • Port Augusta Hospital and Regional Health Service
  • Roxby Downs Health Service
  • Whyalla Hospital and Health Service.

There are many benefits of volunteering at FUNLHN including:

  • building friendships and networks
  • developing  skills and knowledge
  • giving back to the community and feeling good about helping others
  • increasing your confidence and self-satisfaction
  • building employability
  • being part of a team and most importantly – having fun!

How can I be involved?

Volunteering roles will depend on the site you are applying with, but it may include:

  • hospital ward duties and patient support
  • dementia patient activities support
  • hospital information and guidance desk
  • walking group
  • assisting with aged care activities at Oronga Day Centre
  • kiosk (Whyalla only)
  • fundraising activities and groups
  • administrative support
  • craftmaking for fundraising
  • hospital ‘Tucker Trolley’ (like a mobile kiosk).

As a FUNLHN volunteer, you will be supported at every step of the way by our Volunteer Coordinators. We ensure that you have the skills needed to work safely by providing the appropriate training.

The FUNLHN Aboriginal Health Team are available to support Aboriginal volunteers, including with the application process.

All Whyalla and Port Augusta Hospital volunteers will receive a FUNLHN Volunteer polo top as part of their uniform. 

We also ensure your experience is a rewarding one and provide recognition and fun experiences such as service award events, morning teas, and Christmas functions.
