Priority areas

The State Public Health Plan outlines five priority areas to help improve public health outcomes across South Australia.

The Plan’s priority areas were co-developed with South Australian public health partners and community representatives and through a review of current public health evidence.

These priorities build on the important public health work undertaken by local councils, state government agencies, non-governmental organisations, community groups and others and guide future public health planning and delivery.

A set of strategic directions has been identified for each priority area. This helps everyone focus on the same goals and to work together across our State.

Using the Plan’s priority areas for public health planning

When planning or identifying public health projects, partners are encouraged to align with the priority areas and their strategic directions and:

  • align with the South Australian Public Health Act 2011 principles
  • consider equity in design and implementation
  • address the determinants of health that influence health outcomes within each priority area.
