Premier’s Health Award - Our Community - SA Health Awards 2018
Winner — Innovative Approaches to Dementia Care
Whyalla Hospital and Health Service, CHSALHN
Motivated by her mother’s diagnosis of Alzheimers’ and Parkinsons’ Disease, Chad Garforth has spent the last 10 years researching and implementing innovative approaches to dementia rehabilitation with outstanding success. Having researched best practice intervention techniques abroad, Chad now leads a combination of Person Centred Care, Butterfly Model and Montessori therapy approaches in Whyalla, which have reduced hospital admissions, improved wellness, supported independence and prevented early admission into residential care.
Finalist - South Australia’s Health in All Policies initiative
Health Determinants and Policy Unit, DHW
The Health in All Policies (HiAP) initiative makes clear the imperative to incorporate health concerns into all avenues of public administration and planning – reminding us that human wellbeing is not a matter for the health sector alone. Working across government, HiAP has been at the forefront of healthy public policy making and delivery in a variety of areas, including urban planning, transport, maintaining the natural environment and action on obesity.
Finalist — Moving the Radiation Oncology Department – a Change Management Approach
Radiation Oncology, CALHN
In 2017, the Radiation Oncology Department was the first unit operational at the new Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH). This was testament to excellent change and project management. The challenge in moving the Radiation Oncology Department was the demand for uninterrupted service continuity to SA Health cancer patients, therefore managing change successfully was pivotal. A transition plan enabling activity across three sites successfully facilitated positive outcomes for patients and staff.
