Regional Local Health Network Scholarships are offered to existing employees who demonstrate a strong commitment to continued professional practice in the regional South Australia. Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship? To be eligible for postgraduate and certificate scholarships applicants must: ? be permanent employees of a regional Local Health Network or Rural Support Service ? be studying part time, or about to commence part time study, in an approved program of postgraduate or certificate level study For the purposes of this scholarship, postgraduate study at university is defined as: an academic program which results in the student being awarded with a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master Degree or Doctoral Degree. To be eligible for the Margaret Tobin Mental Health scholarship applicants must: ? be permanent employees of a regional Local Health Network or Rural Support Service ? be undertaking postgraduate study in the field of Mental Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees are strongly encouraged to apply. Approved programs of study are listed below, if you have any questions about eligibility please contact the Project Officer, Organisational Development on regionalhealthscholarships@sa.gov.au Scholarship Funding The one-year scholarship funding is: ? valued at $4,500 paid pro rata to study load in two half yearly payments. ? paid as a taxable allowance through payroll (to avoid recipients having to repay salary sacrifice benefits at the equivalent of a higher marginal rate of tax). ? provided at the end of the semester once academic results and enrolment for next semester are submitted. Recipients are to maintain a successful academic record throughout their scholarship, failure to pass any subject may result in loss of funding for subsequent semester. We strongly recommend recipients seek independent taxation and personal financial advice before accepting a scholarship. The referee should comment specifically on how the study will benefit both the organisation and the applicant s career development. 4. submit a written statement (maximum 300 words) that clearly addresses the following: ? Explain how the scholarship will assist in enhancing your career in rural practice. ? Explain your understanding of the pertinent health and/or other issues facing rural communities. P a g e | 6 Scholarship Terms and Conditions If successful, the recipient will need to: ? supply proof of university/training provider acceptance and enrolment (noting acceptance into a course is not required when submitting your scholarship application, evidence of enrolment is required when the scholarship offer is accepted). ? maintain a successful academic record (pass-grades) throughout your studies. Failure to pass any subject may result in loss of funding for the subsequent semester. ? provide a copy of the official academic results at the end of each semester as well as proof of enrolment for the next semester (where applicable). ? ensure the scholarship funds are used for expenses directly related to study. ? accept the scholarship terms and conditions through a signed an agreement. ? recipients who do not fulfil these obligations may be required to repay scholarship funding. Recipients must notify the Organisational Development area immediately if study arrangements, contact details, or circumstances change. Termination of Scholarship Agreement ? failure to complete scholarship obligations such as non-completion of an approved program of study (e.g. withdrawing from the study program prior to completion) may result in termination of the recipient s scholarship agreement and having to return any scholarship funds already paid. ? failure to maintain a successful academic record (pass-grades) during the course may result in non-payment of the following semesters funding.
