Healthy weight for adults
If you are overweight, losing a few kilograms and maintaining any weight lost will make a big difference to your health. It’s also better to be a bit overweight and keep your weight at that level than to continue to gain weight.
For adults, a good way to assess whether you are overweight is to measure your waist circumference. The Federal Government recommendation is that men should aim for a waist circumference of below 94cm and women below 80cm.
As for all people wanting to lose weight and keep it off, the best approach is not to focus on going on a diet, but on gradually making small changes to what you eat and drink and to the amount of physical activity you do.
