Women's mental health and wellbeing services

For women, the childbearing years are the time when emotional/psychological distress is most common.

Specific counselling services and wellbeing programs for depression and anxiety are available. 

You can talk to your GP about treatment and referral to services for anxiety and depression and other mental health issues. 

Antenatal and postnatal emotional wellbeing

The National Perinatal Depression Initiative, aims to improve the prevention and early detection of antenatal and postnatal depression and provide better care, support and treatment for expectant and new mothers experiencing perinatal depression.

The South Australian Women’s Information Service (WIS) is a free and confidential information and referral service for all women in South Australia.

SHine SA

SHine SA provides confidential information for sexual and reproductive health issues. Sexual and reproductive health questions can be answered by an experienced sexual health nurse who can also refer individuals to other area-health services if ongoing support is needed. 
An interpreter can be arranged, free of charge, if required.
