The HIV PEP Hotline is a 24 hour, 7 day a week hotline for members of the public who have or think they may have had a sexual or other non-occupational exposure to HIV. Anyone can call the HIV PEP hotline service – no referral is necessary, however, if the occupational exposure occurs in an SA Health workplace, follow the procedure outlined on the Workforce Health page on the SA Health intranet. All other workplaces can call the PEP hotline. Calls are answered by a Registered Nurse who will conduct a risk assessment based on the information provided by the caller. They will help the caller decide whether to access HIV PEP and, depending on the outcome, will either refer the caller to a HIV PEP distribution point, provide information, or refer the caller to another service.
