Infants, children and young people

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) is a state-wide specialist service providing mental health services for people from birth up to 18 years of age, and their families.

CAMHS provides a range of services and programs for children and young people in acute, community and day program settings, which may include:

  • community visits
  • clinics
  • counselling
  • psychological therapy
  • staff training in child and adolescent mental health issues.

  • Northern CAMHS for people living in the western, eastern and northern suburbs or in northern and western areas of country SA 
  • Southern CAMHS for people living in the southern suburbs or in southern and eastern areas of country SA

Within SA, acute mental health services for infants, children and young people are provided through:

Specialist mental health services for children and young people

  • Adolescent Services at Enfield Campus runs day programs for both the individual and their family, working with young people aged 12 to 18 years with significant and severe mental health issues
  • Behavioural Intervention Service is a state-wide, intensive, specialist service for young people aged 5 to 18 years who have mental health issues and persistent, pervasive and challenging behaviours
  • Mary Street: Adolescent Sexual Abuse Prevention Program is a program for young people aged 12 to 18 years who have committed a sexual offence, have engaged in inappropriate or offensive sexual behaviour or have sexually harassed others
  • Northern CAMHS provides an in-reach mental health service into the Cavan and Magill Youth Training Centres, which are run by the Department of Families and Communities
  • The Early Psychosis Intervention Service is a new service providing support for young people with first episode psychosis.
