Country Health SA provides recovery-focused mental health services to people over 18 years of age with mental illness living in regional and remote areas of South Australia. The goal is to ensure care and rehabilitation that supports people in their recovery.
Our Rural and Remote Service (based at Glenside Campus) provides inpatient care and distance support for country people and mental health service providers.
The Rural and Remote Distance Consultation and Emergency Triage and Liaison Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 13 14 65. It is available to:
This service is staffed by mental health clinicians who triage admissions to the inpatient service and provide a comprehensive range of advice and support including access to psychiatrists.
The Rural and Remote Service also incorporates a telepsychiatry service which uses video conferencing to enable a person to remain in or close to their own community while receiving psychiatric consultations for initial assessment, discharge planning and ongoing treatment.
Local mental health clinicians work within local clinical health networks to coordinate care and provide integrated service delivery for people with mental illness.
There are 15 mental health teams in country areas that provide services from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
The after hours/emergency on-call service is managed via the local health unit emergency department or the Emergency Triage and Liaison Service on 13 14 65.
Regular visiting psychiatry services are provided to country areas. For information on referral to a visiting psychiatrist, contact the team closest to where you live.
