Social Work

RGH Social Work & Welfare provides inpatient counselling related to the social impact of illness and disability, for veterans and the community. The unit also provides referrals and information about other community services.

RGH Social Work & Welfare outpatient services are limited. Please contact us about current outpatient services that are available.

Southern Adelaide Diabetes and Endocrine Services (SADES)

SADES provides diagnostic services to endocrinologists and manages clinical, investigative and PHD research. SADES also supports health/diabetes education.

Referral:  Endocrinologists can refer patients for diagnostic testing.

Speech Pathology

RGH Speech Pathology manages communication and swallowing disorders for veterans and the community. These disorders can be caused by medical conditions, respiratory diseases or from side effects of radiation or surgery and can include difficulties with:

  • swallowing
  • speech
  • understanding and using language
  • voice 
  • fluency
  • cognitive aspects of communication

Referral:  GPs, medical specialists and self referral

Please note: Residents in high level care facilities are not eligible for this service, however, can access swallowing assessment through the Swallowing Disorders Clinic at RGH.

Stomal Wound Therapy

The RGH Stomal/Wound Unit offers services to veterans and the community for the ongoing care of stomas - surgically constructed openings - and wounds. Services include:

  • pre-operative counselling
  • post operative education
  • care and management of stomas and wounds
