Repatriation General Hospital (RGH) Gastroenterology provides inpatient and outpatient services for people with conditions related to the digestive system. Services include:

  • gastroenterology
  • bowel health
  • small bowel investigations
  • swallowing disorders
  • prevention of colorectal cancer - SCOOP

We also offer endoscopic procedures and an emergency endoscopy and consultation service for GI haemorrhage, capsule endoscopy, small bowel enteroscopy and other emergencies. 

The Oesophageal Function Laboratory provides a diagnostic service to patients experiencing swallowing difficulties or reflux disease (heartburn). Procedures include:

  • oesophageal and pharyngeal manometry
  • ambulatory 24hr pH and impedance monitoring
  • high resolution video manometry

Doctors can have manometry and pH results sent by email or mail (viewing software supplied)

General  surgery

RGH General Surgery provides services for the upper gastrointestinal (GI) and colorectal surgery to veterans and the community. 

Conditions that are predominantly treated include:

  • gallstone disease
  • gastro-oesophageal reflux
  • hernias
  • colonic pathology

The unit also provides surgical services for carpal tunnel syndrome and 'lumps & bumps' surgery. Unit surgeons also perform endoscopy and colonoscopy
