Clinical Psychology

Noarlunga Hospital (NH) Clinical Psychology provides inpatient and outpatient services to help people develop skills to adjust their behaviour and understanding, and to help them regulate emotion.

We help people with:

  • depression related to illness or injury
  • adapting to change due to chronic illness, anxiety and psychological trauma
  • managing pain
  • lifestyle changes

NH Clinical Psychology treats inpatients and outpatients who have an ongoing relationship with the hospital. Alternate local psychology services can be accessed through:


Referrals can be made by NH nursing, medical and allied health staff and by visiting medical specialists. Please use EPAS (inpatients) or internal referral form (outpatients) or by speaking with the psychologist.

Please note: the clinical psychologist works part time; therefore crisis referrals cannot be taken.

Adult Mental Health Services prioritise access to mental health support across 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for people who are 18 years and older.

Acute Services

Acute Community Mental Health services provide support to people who are experiencing a mental health crisis or who have recently been discharged from an emergency department or inpatient unit. Services focus on:

  • assessment
  • crisis support
  • short to medium term therapy
  • care coordination

Hours:  Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm (brief therapy, transitional care, dialectical behaviour therapy)

7 day services, 9.00am - 10.30pm (Noarlunga Emergency Mental Health Service)
                            8.50pm - 8am (24/7 acute service)

Mobile Assertive Care

Mobile Assertive Care provides assertive clinic support to people with high or complex needs. Clinical and psychosocial rehabilitation is provided to people with severe and enduring mental illness. Each person works with an allocated care coordinator.

Hours: 9.00am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday

Community Mental Health referrals

Referrals are triaged daily by a senior mental health clinician. We accept referrals from a range of sources including:

  • GPs
  • private psychiatrists
  • mental health triage
  • community mental health teams
  • inpatient units and emergency departments
  • mental health consultation liaison services
  • Housing SA
  • Families SA
  • emergency services

Community Rehabilitation and Recovery

Rehabilitation and Recovery at Noarlunga Hospital focuses on clinical interventions for people who need ongoing support with their mental health. 

Our staff encourage people to maximise wellness through adopting positive life strategies. We promote self-management and recovery by empowering people to become increasingly resilient in managing their mental health.

Community Rehabilitation Centre

The Trevor Parry Community Rehabilitation Centre offers live-in rehabilitation in Noarlunga. The centre has purpose built accommodation for people who have difficulty living unassisted in the community due to their mental health. 

Support includes helping people with their own goals and assisting with the development of skills to improve daily living. Practical support is varied and can include: 

  • learning how to cook and clean
  • planning and living within a budget
  • how to use transport 

Our teams also help people with:

  • taking medication
  • recognising all things that contribute to recovery
  • improving the capacity to achieve goals and live independently

Community Rehabilitation Centres (CRCs) in Adelaide

A stay at the centre can be up to 6 months. During this time, people are helped to create an individual rehabilitation program with the support of  CRC staff. This support continues when people leave. 

People can also ask their carers to be involved in delivering care.


People aged 18 - 65 years who are willing to work on strategies to self-manage the impact of illness, with the support of CRC staff, are eligible for this service.
