Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) Emergency Department is open 24-hours, seven days a week.
It is the obstetric trauma centre for South Australia and a designated state trauma centre. FMC Emergency Department (ED) is accredited for training by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
Location: Level 3 FMC, accessed via the lifts on level 2, to the right of the stairs, opposite the multi-storey carpark.
If driving, please use the ramp that leads directly to the ED. Signs have been installed to direct you. From Flinders Drive, turn into Service Road and the ramp to the ED is on the right.
A set down and pick up area for approximately three vehicles is just outside the entrance door of the ED. A walkway and driveway into the multi-storey car park can also be accessed from here.

Cardiac Care Unit
10.00 am to 8.00 pm
Intensive and Critical Care Unit
Visitors are encouraged to come between 1.00 pm and 9.00 pm. However, visiting can be at any hour depending on the condition of the patient.
Margaret Tobin Centre
Ward 4G: 9.00 am to 8.30 pm daily
Ward 5J: 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm daily
Wards 5H and 5K: 9.00 am to 8.30 pm daily
Visiting needs to be approved by parents.
Parents only between 12.00 noon and 3.00 pm.
Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Antenatal: 8.00 am to 8.00 pm
Postnatal: 8.00 am to 8.00 pm (rest period of one to three hours around midday)
Variety Children's Centre (paediatric ward)
Open visiting hours for parents and/or carers. Other visitors are welcome 11.00 am to 8.00 pm.
10.00 am to 8.30 pm daily.
Nursing staff may restrict visiting in the interest of the patient's wellbeing. Visiting outside of the above hours is at the senior nurse's discretion.
Please note: Some wards encourage a rest time for patients after lunch until 3.00 pm.
Children visiting must be directly supervised by an adult at all times.
Bedside computers have now been installed and are fully operational for patient entertainment at Flinders.
The bedside entertainment services are provided by Telstra and give patients access to a number of different entertainment options on a pre-paid basis.
There is a 10 minute pick-up and drop-off zone at the main entrance of the hospital. For longer periods, parking is available in Wilson’s multi-storey car park, located next to the hospital. Fees apply and you must pay at the AutoPay stations before leaving.
Limited two hour on-street car parking is available on Flinders Drive (the main road in front of the hospital). Parts of this road are quite steep. Please note that this area is regularly patrolled by local council parking inspectors.
Bicycle racks can be found near the main entrance of the hospital, near the multi-storey car park entrance.

Car parking fees have been implemented at our hospital. More information including fees and exemptions are available on the metropolitan hospitals car parking page.
Please note exemptions listed on this page do not apply to Flinders Medical Centre. Please contact the Flinders Medical Centre car parking officer for exemptions at our site.
Flinders Medical Centre is accessible for wheelchairs. Lifts are situated inside the main entrance and throughout the hospital. If entering/exiting from the northern entrance (opposite the multi-storey car park), a ramp is available.
Car parking spaces for people with disability permits are available on:
- each level of the multi-storey car park (near the lifts)
- level 2 - northern entrance (near the Transport Office)
- level 4 - southern entrance
- Flinders Drive (two disability permit parking spaces)
There is a set down space for people with disabilities under the verandah near the main entrance (30 minutes).
