Strathalbyn and District Health Service provides acute services, ranging from in-hospital care for adults and children by local general practitioners to specialist surgical, outpatients and aged care beds.
Patients may begin their stay at the Strathalbyn and District Health Service but finish their care at one of the neighbouring hospitals with specialist medical or allied health input when required. All hospitals in the area work collaboratively to support the patient care needs of the region.
Accident and emergency
In a medical emergency, always call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance
Strathalbyn Hospital offers a 24-hour Accident and Emergency service. When you arrive at Accident and Emergency, you will be seen by the duty nurse, who will collect information and assess your illness or injury.
Doctors provide emergency on-call services at Strathalbyn and District Hospital between the hours of 7am and 10pm, seven days a week.
Between 10pm and 7am, Accident and Emergency staff at Strathalbyn and District Hospital are supported by the South Australian Virtual Emergency Service (SAVES), which provides video conference equipment allowing them to triage patients in consultation with a doctor.
In a medical emergency, it is important that you receive care as quickly as possible, so always call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance.
SA Ambulance Service emergency medical dispatch support officers can provide advanced first-aid advice over the phone while an ambulance is on its way to you.

Mental health emergency
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, you can present to the Accident and Emergency service at Strathalbyn and District Health Service.
Alternatively, contact the Rural and Remote Mental Health Service on 13 14 65 for mental health counselling, support and information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Kalimna Hostel has now closed and all residents have relocated to suitable alternative accommodation that meets their needs.

Visitors play an important part in any patient’s hospital stay, and visitors are welcome.
Visiting hours for all wards are: 3.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
Any visitors who are required to be in the hospital building outside these hours will need to register at the Admissions Desk and receive an identity badge.
Parking is available at the front of the hospital on Alfred Place. There is also disabled parking on site.
