Other (SA Health funded) drug and alcohol services and locations

SA Health contracts other non-government agencies to provide a range of drug and alcohol services through the Specialist Drug and Alcohol Assessment and Treatment Services program. 

Services to be provided are:

  • Outpatient Counselling
  • Non-Residential Rehabilitation
  • Residential Rehabilitation
  • Mobile Assistance Patrols
  • Sobering Up
  • Integrated Youth Substance Misuse Specialist Service

In addition to the above, Family Drug Support provides a counselling service to assist families dealing with drug and alcohol issues.

Individual counselling support services for clients and/or close family and friends of clients who have substance abuse issues.

Locations include:

  • Christies Beach  
  • Adelaide CBD

Non-residential rehabilitation

Uniting Communities

Intensive treatment program for people 21 years and over, to address substance misuse issues. Integrates a range of services and therapeutic activities:

  • counselling
  • social and community living skills
  • group work
  • employment, education and living skills training

Location: Smithfield

Operates during normal business hours (excluding South Australian public holidays).

Sobering up services

The Salvation Army (SA) Property Trust

Provides a safe environment where intoxicated persons receive care and may sober up until the effects of the substance consumed has subsided.

Location: Adelaide CBD (Whitmore Square)

Open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Integrated youth specialist substance misuse service

Centacare

Centacare provides sobering up services, residential rehabilitation and outpatient counselling.

It also provides integrated youth substance misuse services for young people aged 12-24 years. This includes:

  • counselling
  • individual and group work
  • information and support for family members

Location: Stepney (where appropriate outreach services or transfer of country clients to metropolitan services). 

Operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Residential rehabilitation

Community based residential drug and alcohol program for people 21 years and over to address substance misuse issues. This includes:

  • counselling
  • social and community living skills
  • group work
  • relapse prevention
  • employment, education and living skills training
  • entry into non drug using community groups and activities of interest

  • Brompton
  • Christies Beach
  • Smithfield

Operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Family Drug Support Program

Family Drug Support

Telephone support service operates where messages can be left 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Evening groups fortnightly in three Adelaide metropolitan locations. Training sessions and group meetings during the week and on weekends as required. This includes:

  • crisis support
  • counselling for families and friends of drug users
  • gateway for participation in group meetings

Locations include:

  • Brompton
  • Leabrook
  • Hallett Cove  
  • Goodwood

Operates Monday – Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm (excluding South Australian public holidays).
