How to become a Crunch&Sip® school

It's easy to become a Crunch&Sip® school.  Your school will be well supported by the project officer, with further information available in many instances, from local health and education workers.

Here is a sample of the activities that schools will have four terms to complete:

  • Attend one Crunch&Sip® information session to be held in local districts.
  • Over the year, will meet the Crunch&Sip® criteria of having over 80% of classrooms implementing a Crunch&Sip®  break, with over 70% of the total number of students in our school participating on a weekly basis, and provide this information to the project officer once per term.
  • Have a plan in place to ensure all students have access to fruit, vegetables and water.
  • Ensure all Crunch&Sip® resources and incentives are distributed equitably.
  • Look for opportunities to inform parents and the wider community of the Crunch&Sip® program for example newsletters, media stories.
  • Incorporate nutrition into classroom activities where appropriate, including participation in Crunch&Sip® month.
  • Have the Crunch&Sip® procedures endorsed by the appropriate school committee/group and reviewed on an annual basis.
  • Include Crunch&Sip® in school policy and procedures, orientation information for new staff, and in the school parent handbook.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the Crunch&Sip® program.

A variety of resources such as water bottles, bookmarks, certificates for the school, student certificates, curriculum materials and fence signs will be sent to participating schools at the end of each term.
