Do It For Life

It’s not too late to make a change for better health and it’s easier with support.

Do It For Life (DIFL) is a free healthy lifestyle  program where people can get support from a lifestyle worker to make changes to improve health and help prevent serious diseases like diabetes, respiratory disease or heart disease.

We all know healthy eating, increasing physical activity, drinking less alcohol, reducing stress and not smoking are good for us.

What’s hard is knowing how to do the good things every day.

A healthy lifestyle can help prevent chronic disease

Whether you want to quit smoking, drink less alcohol, eat healthier foods, reduce stress or be more active, it’s easier with support.

Your lifestyle worker works with you, and your doctor, to help you find ways to make lifelong changes to achieve your goals.

A healthy lifestyle can help you enjoy a longer, healthier life and reduce your risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and respiratory disease.

  • Do you eat a healthy diet?
  • Are you getting enough exercise?
  • Is it hard for you to quit smoking?
  • Are you ready to make lifestyle changes to be healthier?

Do It For Life works!

Information from clients who successfully completed the Do It For Life program over the first 3 years shows that people DO make changes that improve their health.

Some of these changes are:

  • lower AUSDRISK (PDF 43KB) (a tool that measures your risk of developing diabetes) scores. This means their risk of chronic disease dropped. Some people were no longer in the high risk group
  • less risk factors for chronic disease than they had at the start
  • better eating habits
  • more physical activity
  • better self-reported general health.

You can read more about these changes in the Do it for Life 3 years of data fact sheet (PDF 184KB).

Are you eligible for the Do It For Life program?

  • Are you aged 18 or over?
  • Do you score 12 or more on the AUSDRISK form? You can download the Do It For Life Referral and AUSDRISK form (PDF 326KB) and check your risk score.
  • Have your Do It For Life referral form signed by your GP so the doctor can confirm that you do not already have a diagnosed chronic disease.
