Delay to self-collection for cervix screening

1 December 2017

The Commonwealth has advised that the option for eligible women to self-collect a cervical sample will not be available from 1 December due to delays in the process of accreditation of the tests.

Healthcare providers who conduct cervical screening tests are advised not to offer self-collection to eligible women until further notice.

All other aspects of the renewed National Cervical Screening Program will go ahead as scheduled on 1 December 2017. Healthcare providers are reminded that the MBS item for PAP smears ends at midnight 30 November 2017 and the new item number for the new HPV test commences on 1 December 2017.
