TeamSTEPPS® is an effective, evidence-based tool for improving teamwork, communication and patient safety.
The program is a funded project of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care under the Clinical Handover Initiative.
TeamSTEPPS® is being implemented state-wide following its introduction in South Australia in 2008.
In South Australia, the TeamSTEPPS® Pilot (PDF 1427KB) demonstrated an improvement in knowledge, skills and attitudes towards teamwork and communication. It also improved safety culture and a reduction in patient incidents.
Developed by the United States Department of Defense and the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ), TeamSTEPPS® has generously been provided to South Australia under license.
For information on the use of TeamSTEPPS® in other areas of Australia, contact the TeamSTEPPS® Coordinator.
