SA Health's involvement in research

SA Health has various roles in relation to providing, directing and supporting state-wide research:

  • Set policy and strategic directions for research that is aligned with the South Australian Strategic Plan Health Targets and other SA Health priorities.
  • Ensure public research is overseen and assessed by research ethics committees.
  • Collaboration with national and international universities, private institutes and other non government organisations.
  • Assist in the translation of research findings into policy and practice.
  • Support implementation of Centres of Excellence for research to build research capacity.
  • Ensure that research involving Aboriginal people is ethical and respectful to their culture.

SA Health offers the opportunity for researchers to be involved in first class research in a range of settings. These may include but are not limited to:

  • Public hospitals in metropolitan and rural areas.
  • Primary health care services throughout South Australia.
  • Children, youth and women’s health services.
  • Pathology services.
