Our hospital dashboards
The hospital dashboards provide easy access to up-to-date information about how the State’s metropolitan public hospitals are performing.
The Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient (IP) dashboards provide a regular update on the number of patients in the ED and Inpatient areas of South Australia’s metropolitan public hospitals at any given time. The data is updated from each hospital every 30 minutes.
The elective surgery dashboard provides a daily snapshot of public hospital elective surgery waiting list activity from major metropolitan hospitals and 27 country hospitals. The data is updated daily.
Similar to the ED and IP dashboards, the ambulance dashboard uses the same information on the numbers of patients presenting, average waiting times and the occupancy and expected discharge times of inpatient beds. The dashboard is updated every five minutes and also shows the average turnaround times for ambulance crews at hospital EDs.
The dashboards assist hospital management, clinicians and staff to monitor and manage the patient flow in emergency departments and inpatient units.
Providing this information helps to remove some of the mystique around how hospitals are run and inform the public about how patient flow is managed in a busy hospital environment.
South Australia is the first state in the country to make this level of extensive information regularly available to the public.
By publishing regular ED patient and Inpatient and elective surgery data for all our metropolitan hospitals, SA Health is increasing the transparency of our health system and helping to inform the public of the complexities involved in managing a busy hospital environment.
