Mamee Monster recall update
22 January 2018
A recall of Mamee products has been extended to include additional best before dates of Mamee Monster vegetable rice sticks and Mamee crunchy snacks because of the presence of gluten in the products, which are labelled gluten-free.
SA Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paddy Phillips, said the recall was a necessary measure because of presence of gluten.
“This product is marketed at children, but anyone who has a gluten allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” Professor Phillips said.
“The product is safe for consumers to eat if they do not have a gluten allergy or intolerance.
“The recall is of Mamee Monster Rice Sticks Vegetable 120g 6 pack multipacks and 200g 10 pack multipacks sold at Coles, Woolworths, Big W, IGA and Foodland. It also includes Mamee Crunchy Snacks 152g 8 pack multipacks.
“The rice sticks are made in Malaysia and distributed by South Australian company ABC Sales and Marketing, which is working with Food Standards Australia New Zealand to coordinate the recall.
“The issue was detected by the manufacturer during regular product testing.”
Consumers can seek a refund or replacement, under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
