Have your say on local health services - YNR
Thursday, 13 July 2017
Yorke and Northern residents are being urged to become involved in a community engagement initiative that will help improve local health services.
Regional Director Yorke and Northern Region, Roger Kirchner, called on people to join the district’s Community Network, which provides the option for residents to participate as much, or as little, as they like.
“The Yorke and Northern Region (YNR) Community Network is a register of people in the community who would like to help from time to time,” Mr Kirchner said.
“Members can tell us what is important to them, and are provided the opportunity to give feedback on new ideas, projects or developments in the region.”
Thirty people have joined the YNR Community Network since it started up in 2015.
Community networks have also been set up and are running successfully in the Barossa Hills Fleurieu, South East and Riverland Mallee Coorong regions.
Mr Kirchner said there were four ways for residents to get involved with the YNR Community Network.
“Network members can be really active participants or they can simply lend a hand from time to time – it’s up to each person how much they want to get involved,” he said.
Consumers can choose to be informed and receive information about what’s happening across the region’s hospital and health units; be consulted and provide feedback through surveys, focus groups and forums; be involved and take part in workshops, focus groups and forums; or be a consumer advisor and be a member of a health service committee or planning group, or share personal experiences for training and development purposes.
Mr Kirchner said the YNR Community Network complements the more formal structure of the existing Health Advisory Councils.
“Our Community Network members provide us with a really important consumer viewpoint. Partnering with Consumers in the planning, design and measurement of our health services has been shown to increase safety and quality outcomes.”
