Disability adjusted life years (DALYs) for 0 to 14 age group

This chart shows the burden of disease for 0-14 year olds. The largest burden in this age group is mental disorders. Chronic respiratory diseases also feature strongly.

Disability adjusted life years (DALYs) for 15 to 24 age group

This chart shows the burden of disease for 15-24 year olds. It is clear that young adults experience low disease burden in most categories, with the striking exception of mental illness which has a high burden for both males and females.

Disability adjusted life years (DALYs) for 25 to 64 age group

The highest burden in this "mid-life" age group is from cancer, followed by mental disorders. Note that cardiovascular disease has a much higher burden for males than for females.

Disability adjusted life years (DALYs) for 65+ age group

The highest disease burden for older (65+) South Australians is from cardiovascular disease, followed by cancer. Nervous system and sense organ disorders are third, with the majority of burden in this category due to dementia.
