Medicines and Technology Programs

The Medicines and Technology Programs branch, within the System Performance and Service Delivery division of the Department for Health and Ageing, is responsible for medicines policy and programs and health technology assessment within the South Australian public sector.

Role of the branch

The Medicines and Technology Programs branch:

  • leads development and implementation of statewide policy and programs for medicines and health technology assessment to ensure best possible outcomes for all South Australians
  • improves equity of access to medicines including optimising resource allocation and the quality use of medicines
  • develops and administers controlled substances legislation
  • provides expert advice and education to a wide range of stakeholders
  • works in partnership with health services to improve patient safety and quality of care.
