Port Pirie Regional Health Service provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services to patients from Port Pirie and surrounding communities throughout the Southern Flinders and Mid North.

Patients may commence their stay at Port Pirie Regional Health Service but finish their care at one of the neighbouring hospitals with specialist medical or allied health input when required. All hospitals in the region work collaboratively to support the patient care needs.

Accident and emergency services

When you arrive at the Port Pirie Regional Health Service accident and emergency service, you will be seen by a nurse to collect information and assess your illness or injury prior to seeing a doctor.

Mental health emergencies

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency you can present to the accident and emergency service at Port Pirie Regional Health Service. 

Alternatively, telephone Rural and Remote Mental Health Service on 13 14 65 for mental health counselling, support and information 24 hours, 7 days.

Private patients

At the Port Pirie Hospital you can choose to be admitted as a Private Patient.Admission as a private patient has benefits for both you and the hospital. For more information please visit attending hospital as a private patient

Patient entertainment

Bedside computers have now been installed and are fully operational for patient entertainment in 12 hospitals including Whyalla Hospital and Health Service.

The bedside entertainment services are provided by Telstra and give patients access to a number of different entertainment options on a pre-paid basis for public patients.Private patients will receive this service free of charge.

Visiting hours

Visitors play an important part in any patient’s hospital stay, and visitors are welcome.

Visiting hours for all wards are 2.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

Any visitors who are required to be in the hospital building outside these hours will need to register at the admissions desk and receive an identity badge.

Car parking

Parking is available at the front of the hospital with additional parking available on Alexander Street. There is also disabled parking on site.

Port Pirie Regional Health Service has full disability access. If you have special needs and are unsure, please contact reception who will assist you with your specific enquiry.
