GP Plus Health Care services and centres

A key objective of the SA Government’s GP Plus Health Care Strategy (PDF 468KB) is to work closely with general practice and other services to better respond to the health needs of local communities.

To achieve this objective, SA Health is committed to establishing up to 10 GP Plus Health Care Centres and two GP Plus Super Clinics in the Adelaide metropolitan area as well as centres in country South Australia.

GP Plus Health Care Centres and GP Plus Super Clinics will:

• have services determined via Health Improvement Plans (PDF 121KB)
• add value and complement general practice
• enhance access to services for those most in need
• create new service delivery opportunities.

GP Plus Health Care Centres and GP Plus Super Clinics

GP Plus Health Care Centres and the GP Plus Super Clinics will complement the services offered by general practice and help people take control of their own health care, stay healthy and to avoid unnecessary hospitalisation.

A range of services and programs reflecting community health needs will be available from the Centres/Clinics and may include:

• general practice, possibly including after-hours general practitioner (GP) services
• nursing and midwifery services
• walk-in treatment clinics for minor injuries and illness
• specialist clinics
• allied health services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy and social workers
• Aboriginal health services
• dental services
• drug and alcohol services
• children and youth health services
• community mental health services
• chronic disease self-management programs
• healthy lifestyle and risk factor programs
• health assessment, education and counselling.
