SA Health offers a range of heath services for children and young people across South Australia.

Child and Family Health Service

The Child and Family Health Service provides services across South Australia, based on the latest research and best practice. Our services include:

  • health services for infants and children 0 to 5 years, with a focus on 0 to 3 years
  • feeding, settling, child development support and development checks
  • parenting support and information to parents and caregivers
  • up to date health information for parents and their children.

Paediatric outpatient clinics

Paediatric outpatient clinics are available at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre.

There are also clinics at Noarlunga Health Services as an outreach service.

Parenting SA

Parenting SA promotes the value of parents and the important role of parenting. It aims to support parents to build their knowledge, skills and confidence.

Parent Easy Guides

Parent Easy Guides (PEGS) are fact sheets with helpful information for parents and carers. You’ll find these guides in most child care centres and community centres.

Parenting Groups

The Parenting SA website has a directory of parenting groups in South Australia. Parenting SA does not run these courses and suggest that you ask for the qualifications of the leader and the philosophy and values of the agency running the program so that you can decide whether it's suitable for you.

Parent Helpline

Telephone: 1300 364 100

The Parent Helpline provides telephone information and support for parents of infants and children, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. The helpline is staffed by qualified staff who provide information based on the latest research. Information provided covers a range of topics including child health, behaviour, nutrition and parenting.

Online health information for parents, teenagers and children

The website provides a wide range of information on parenting and child health, kid’s health, teen health and young adult health. Managed by the Children, Youth and Women’s Health Service, the evidence-based information covers more than 1,000 topics.

Child Development Services

Children with multiple or severe developmental problems, including global developmental delay, autism and Asperger’s Syndrome can be assessed by a multidisciplinary Children’s Assessment Team at the Flinders Medical Centre.

The Women's and Children's Hospital's Kingsley Fairbridge Child Development Unit provides a team approach to the assessment and management of children whose development is of concern in more than one area, and provides support to their families.

Children's Centres

Children's Centres for Early Childhood Development and Parenting are service hubs for parents and children from 0 to 8 years including health services, childcare, preschool and family support. SA Health is a key partner in this cross government initiative. There are currently 12 centres across the state with a further eight in development. Child Protection Service

The Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Child Protection Service is provided for families living in northern, western and eastern Adelaide and northern and western country areas. Referrals are provided through Families SA.

The Flinders Medical Centre Child Protection Service is provided for families living in southern metropolitan Adelaide, South East and Riverland areas of South Australia.

The Second Story Youth Health Service

The Second Story Youth Health Service (TSS) is a free, confidential health service for young people aged 12 to 25 years. .

TSS provides clinical services, counselling services, health education and promotion and runs a number of groups and programs.

Please contact your local The Second Story for an appointment. Services are available in Adelaide, Christies Beach and at the Elizabeth Shopfront. 

Marion Youth at GP Plus Health Care Centre Marion

Marion Youth at GP Plus Health Care Centre Marion (Marion Youth) is a free, confidential health service for young people aged 12 to 25 years.

Marion Youth provides drop-in general and sexual health clinics, counselling services and a recreation space; groups; and school holiday, Relationship Violence No Way! and Healthy Youth lifestyle programs.

Youth Healthline

Telephone: 1300 13 17 19 (local call cost from anywhere in South Australia)

The Youth Healthline is a telephone service for young people aged 12 to 25 years in South Australia. It is available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health

Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) provides mental health services to children and young people up to 18 years and their families who are experiencing emotional, behavioural or psychiatric problems.

Services are provided across a number of locations across South Australia.

The Headroom website provides information for children, young people and parents about how to stay positive and have positive mental health. The information is developed for young people by young people.

Shopfront Youth Health and Information Service

Location: Shop 3-4, 72 John Street Salisbury South Australia

Shopfront Youth Health & Information Service provides a comprehensive range of primary health care services to young people 12 to 25 years living in the Playford, Salisbury and Tea Tree Gully council areas. Our facilities offer a safe and youth friendly environment where young people can access services including:

  • counselling
  • support
  • advocacy
  • referral
  • health information
  • community projects and groups
  • free internet access.

Shopfront also has a range of visiting agencies that provide services to young people, including SHine SA, DASSA and a youth lawyer.
