Glenside Campus redevelopment

The State Government is investing more than $300 million to create modern mental health and substance abuse services to better support South Australian individuals and families.

The Glenside Campus redevelopment is a major step towards providing these improved services across South Australia, which includes an extra 86 adult beds across all levels of care. A small number of which will be flexible medical places that may bring hospital services into peoples' homes.

Glenside Campus was originally designed at a time when people with mental illness were treated very differently from today. It was built based on a Victorian-era asylum. Most of the campus buildings are now unsuitable for the delivery of modern health care.

The redevelopment will create an environment that brings together health services with every day community life and facilities such as community open space, housing, shopping, business and cultural activity aims to support people with mental illness or substance abuse issues to lead normal lives while reducing the stigma associated with the history of the campus.
